HELLO, WE'D LIKE TO SHOW YOU SOMETHING:
The experimental short video below is a self-funded proof of concept. "AND THEN WE'LL LIVE IN THAT TIME" was shot over a half season in Crested Butte. Predominantly, ATWLITT is about feeling; be it a prolonged toe-side turn on an overdue lunch break, or a brief stretch outside the car at a midnight rest stop.
NOTE: This video is not currently public. It is a pitch asset for the 25/26 season.
The majority of this video was shot on film. We could only afford to make it last for a few minutes, but next year we aim to spend more time here. We'd like your help to make that possible. We'll revisit that below, but till then, please enjoy:
So what next? Well, we want to make a full version/ sequel this upcoming season. The aim is a 20-40 minute flick titled "THE TIME WE LIVE IN" that can make festival runs. We'd also like to do a full premiere here in Crested Butte.
We get it, we're the new kids on the block (I mean newer than the Druids at least). Even so, we like to think this is something fresh. We're normal people - we snowboard on lunch breaks, spend too much money on gear (and not enough on food), and we love snowboarding - in this and that time.
The film will be directed by me (Shaffer Nickel). I've spend 16 years making videos - 5 of which I spend building Fox Suspension's breakout YouTube series 'Dialed.' The on-sight photographer will be Luke Hedman. You haven't heard of him yet but he's got the vision. The photo segment of ATWLITT was all his work. It will be produced by Ryan Taylor who has been in the game with us since 2018 and there's no one I'd trust more. The riders in ATWLITT will make up a large chunk of next years film, but we're also including the ladies of CB and a few bonus outsiders.
Specifically, we're looking for funding. Our style works best on 16mm film and it is expensive, but ultimately we think it's worth it. In the age of AI meltdown, something about analog 'feels' a way that is worth something to an audience. We've put our money where our mouth is and we plan to continue down this expensive and risky road into the future.
Ideally the film would be hosted by a title sponsor and publshed on their channels or posted by a snow publication (shredbots, torment, etc). but if that doesn't materialize it will eventually live on my YouTube channel (look up Shaffer Nickel). All entities that cooperate in funding will be provided logo placement in the film, marketing opportunities at the premiere (giveaways, integrations, etc.), and access to raw footage for promotional use.
If you see the same vision we do, we'd love to talk. All of us here are stoked for this time next year when we're putting the final touches on a 20-40 minute banger. And then we'll live in that time.
